Additional Technical Information:
The Internally Circulating Bubbling Fluidized Bed (ICBFB) gasification plant is based on a 1000 kWth reactor of specific configuration and operates a steam/oxygen gasification process to generate a producer gas of medium heating value (LHV 9-11 MJ/Nm3dry). The gas can be used for efficient CHP application (e.g. HTFC) or, thanks to the absence of nitrogen, after proper gas composition adjustment, as starting gas mixture for the synthesis of gaseous and liquid biofuels (i.e. SNG, FT diesel, MeOH, DME), H2 production and green chemicals.

The specific design of the reactor, developed with the Universities of L’Aquila and Teramo, stands out for two features. The first one concerns the internal recirculation of the bed inventory, designed to prolong the residence time of the supplied feedstock and related products (e.g. char) inside the reactor. The second one concern the use of a bundle of ceramic candles for high-temperature gas filtration directly integrated id the reactor freeboard. Overall, thanks to the use of oxygen in the mix of gasifying agent and the advanced integrated system for HT filtration, the plant is very compact and a significant process intensification is achieved.
